SOFIA is a new kind of magazine that aims to combine lifestyle and entertainment elements with a philanthropic background. Our goal is to empower women and girls to live their best life - feeling good about themselves while doing their part in making the world a better place.
Like Dooley says, “Life’s not about expecting, hoping and wishing, it’s about doing, being and becoming. It’s about the choices you’ve just made, and the ones you’re about to make, it’s about the things you choose to say - today. It’s about what you’re gonna do after you finish reading this.” Life’s too short to be small, so here is to a great adventure!
The development of this "new" kind of magazine was brought about by the editor's discontent with current women's lifestyle magazines. Even though she considers herself a fan of publications such as Cosmopolitan, Shape and Germany's Freundin, the abundance of advertisement for all things glittering, exclusive and expensive as well as the focus on superficiality and the 'systematic creation and fostering of a desire to purchase goods or services in even greater amounts' sparked a craving for a paradigm shift. The title SOFIA is deliberately being followed by The Zeitgeist Lifestyle Magazine because it is this magazine's purpose to highlight the cultural, ethical, intellectual, spiritual, and political climate of our society, point out its weaknesses, create a platform where improvements can be discussed and especially to advertise equality rather than social exclusion.
SOFIA Magazine is non-governmental and non-profit and therefore relies on volunteers, sponsors and donors.
Launched on January 1st 2011, the magazine is still in the development phase - new elements, apps, contents and features are being added by the minute. English is the magazine's prime language, however it is possible that there will be versions in Spanish and German in the future.
Maintaining a magazine requires hard work and a devoted, dynamic team. Unfortunately, our resources are limited for the time being, so if you enjoy writing, editing, translating, web design and/or photography and feel your skills would help us improve this magazine, you are very welcome to join our team.

Or help us spread the word, recommend and/or link us. Every little helps and is greatly appreciated!
